Sometimes I get so excited to start a project that I forget to take before picture... That is what happened with this project! This cake stand started it's life as two separate pieces– a wooden tray and a candle holder. The first thing I did was sand down the tray. I had seen a lime wash and I was trying to re-create it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®. After sanding, I wiped the wooden tray down. I then mixed 3 parts water to 1 part Old White. I brushed the mixture on, let sit for about a minute, then wiped. Once the painted dried I clear waxed followed by dark wax in random spots.
For the base I took Duck Egg Blue and set it out uncovered, to let the paint thicken, because I wanted that beautiful natural crackle that chalk paint makes when applied in thick coats. I did apply heat from a hair dryer to get it to dry quicker and crack a little more. Once dried I applied clear wax followed by dark wax.
After both pieces were dry I glued them together to create this adorable stand. I am very happy with how my trash to treasure find turned out.
